Introduction to Engineering

Together with Hopscotch Songs we wrote The Engineer Song which introduces the wide range of things different types of engineer do - watch and sing along below. This song can be used to introduce engineering lessons and activities.

Here you can also find activities developed by engineers Diane and Doug which could be a useful place to start in introducing engineering. The video Elsie the Engineer, developed by Diane, introduces the idea of engineering as problem solving.

We've also created some posters of the Engineering Design Cycle which can be displayed while doing engineering activities, reminding children of the processes involved in engineering, and helping to make clear  what engineering is by highlighting how engineering is done.
